Value Village Finds! A table, a teacup and more!

I was recently at the Value village and found a few items I had to have! I wanted to show you before I start to re-do them all.

teacup

I gave .40 for this Adorable tea cup and it has the stamp “Orleans Z.S.&C Bavaria” written on it. It has pink and greenish roses around it, a gold lining around the top and down the handle. Also there is a pretty rose on the inside of the cup as well. It’s probably only worth about $2 or so, but I love tea cups so it’s going in my collection!

chest

This box is actually plastic. It looks like at one point it had legs on the bottom but I like the size of it. I gave $5 for it. The lock is metal and so are the hinges. Below you can see the box open. It’s more apparent there that is indeed plastic. I plan on painting the box and putting it on my dresser for my 2000 lotions. o.O

open chest

candlabra

This candle sconce is also plastic. I’ve gotten things like this before in this weird gold color, paint them a fun color or a shiny black and they look AWESOME. My sister has laid claim to this. lol. It will probably be black. I pad only $1.41 for it.

table

This little three tiered table is only about 2 feet high. Very short, and wobbly, but I love it. It’s flat on the back so it will be flush against the wall. I think I may but this on my small landing. This will probably be a very shiny grey when I’m done, but as you can see it’s in rough shape. It was originally priced at $12.12 but I got it half off. So I only paid $6.06 for it. A little more than I like paying but this will be awesome when I’m done. It has no markings that I can find so I don’t know how old it is.

top fo the table

So there you have it! Total I spent $12.87 for all four items. Very cool and I’ll post them as we get each project done as well. :D Wait until you see what I will do with this!

Save a Candle Holder – The Easy Way

I know you have this problem. You have a great candle holder, and a beautiful smelling candle. You burn the candle. Now the candle is stuck to your candle holder and all that’s left is for you to get a butter knife and cut that booger out!

Look Familiar?

The inside…all melted and stuck.

Well….NOPE. First things first, Take your candle holder. And stick it in the freezer

Just stick it on the shelf!

Let it sit in the freezer for about thirty minutes to an hour, if it’s a larger candle you may want to leave it in for an extra hour or so.

All you have to do is stick it in the Freezer. Seriously, just stick it in the Freezer for about 30 minutes to an hour.

What happens is that the cold shrinks the candle so it slides right out. So all you have to do then, is wash your candle holder and you are golden. This is definitely something that may not work on ALL CANDLES. I’ve had a few Glade candles not come out even after days in the freezer, but 90% of the time this will work. :)

Ugly Chair Re-do in Teenage Dream Love

A few years back right after I moved into my current house, I found a chair on the side of the road. It was ugly, beat up, covered in cobwebs, but the curvature to that chair, the smooth finish..it had potential!

Here is the chair after I cleaned off about 10 years of cobwebs and spider eggs:
Please excuse the mess BEHIND the chair, we were unpacking at that time and there were literally boxes everywhere. lol. I had two households worth of furniture and was steadily going through everything.

As you can see the chair base was…nasty. The fabric literally made me cringe with the feel of how gross it was. lol.

I had picked up some pink paint at a local Paint Recycle center, very pretty, almost cotton candy, my room was pink and black at that time and I wanted something special to use as a dressing chair.

As you can see the paint is very wet and shiny, this was a matte finish so once it dries its dull, it does not shine, which I like, I didn’t want a very shiny piece.

So once the paint dried I recovered the seat in this pretty black and white damask I had. It gave the chair a great look and very Hollywood Glam! :) It still sits in my room but I may be recovering the seat again to match my new Vintage Love decor.

Hope you enjoy the night!

Laughing Cow container into Jewelry Box for VALENTINE’S DAY!

Just in time for Valentine’s Day! You can turn a Laughing Cow cheese wedge container into a jewelry box for about $2.88. All you need is a yarn (I got a lovely pink and red bundle for $2.88 at Walmart) and red felt (if you want flowers) and with my glue gun, turned a piece of recycling into a fun gift option.

You start out with this cute EMPTY Laughing Cow cheese container. The cheese was good wasn’t it? I know. You want to strip the stickers off the box, be careful with the sides because the box is fragile on the sides.

You you want to start with the center and just keep winding the yarn around and around in a circle. I love this yarn because it is multi-colored and gives the feel of several different yarns. :)

To make the rose is SIMPLE. you start with a round piece of felt or fabric. (Or in my case semi round. lol) You cut in a spiral all the way to the center and then pinch the center and you begin to roll the spiral around and around until you get to your center piece which you will glue to the bottom to make a base.

Once you are done you wind up with this:

On a quick note you can also buy Yarn and Felt at the Dollar tree ! So this easily a Dollar Tree craft. I already had the felt on hand (I even think it came from the DT!!) and my Local Dollar tree had no yarn in their craft section (Sometimes I do strike out!)

Enjoy!

Value Village Finds: Hot Plates to Wall Decor!

We found these two thick iron hot plates in the Value Village for about $1.21 each. Very vintage, probably from the 50′s or 60′s, very dirty.

My sister, Reagan, fell in LOVE with them. She wanted to use them as wall art, looking at them I didn’t see what she saw, but we bought them and brought them home. Reagan wasted NO time in picking out silver paint and giving them each two coats. After she was done, they looked stunning! Very shinny and noticeable.

We hung them in the living room and they are pretty awesome! :) I wanted to share the transformation with you guys!

D.I.Y: Book Page Wreath

Yesterday I had posted some tutorials and links of things I was planning on making and today I did finish one of them! I showed you this fantastic tutorial from Living with Lindsay where she turned an old book into a beautiful wall wreath.Well, mine didn’t turn out quite so beautiful. In fact it had so many blank spots I pulled an idea from ANOTHER blog tutorial from The House of Smiths and made a few pink crepe paper roses to fill in those spots. Here is what I started out with:

An Old book and a wreath!

I got the little wreath at the Dollar Tree for $1. It is one of those wet wreaths that you can put real flowers in because it keeps water. Well they didn’t have any white regular wreathes.

The book I already had, had a little water damage and is pretty old.

Because I didn’t like the feel of the wreath, I wrapped it in pink crepe streamer. lol.

So, I’m working and working and gluing the ripped out pages and then I get done. And I don’t like it. lol. So I took the beautiful crepe paper tutorial and made some crepe paper roses to fill in the empty spots in my wreath.

When I took the photos of the wreath the shadows on the inner folds make them look dark brown, but they aren’t! lol.

Now this is hanging on my bedroom wall, which will become Carnation Pink soon. lol. I have this book case I am going to be working on starting tomorrow. It’s now ugly brown, I saved it a while back from the side of the road. I had problems deciding what I wanted to do with it so here it is!

LOL Excuse the books…I have tons of them everywhere. So I’m either going to paint it white or blue and I have bought this great wrapping paper. It was another Dollar Tree find for $1.
I’m going to paper the backdrop with it so that it looks very Country Chic. :) So there you have it! I removed one item from my to-do list and added a new one!
Tell me what you think!

Princess Ribbon Chair – Children’s Chair Re-Purposed

I have started the beginning process of planning a Princess party for my cousin’s 4th birthday party. I always look for something I can DIY, and I don’t have children myself, so when Maddie’s 4th birthday came up I signed up.

I know I wanted to create a castle out of cardboard, I had decided to buy a party packet and chose this Princess Party Pack. And now we’ve moved on to figure out furniture and other misc. So the other night we passed a house that had some children’s furniture thrown on the side of the curb.  Yeah, I’m a picker. lol. So we got a little red folding metal chair, with a padded bottom that was completely ripped apart and the back was missing, I’m assuming if it had been intact it also would have been padded. There was a blue table that I’m assuming went with the chair, the table itself had a broken leg snappy thing? lol, not sure how to describe that. It also has a dry erase top. Easy fix. And we got another little chair outside plastic chair in hunter green (I HATE the color hunter green). All of these things are small and kid sized.

I immediately began work on the red folding chair, considering the seat was all ripped up (Sorry, I didn’t get a before photo I was so excited over it I completely forgot) I decided to recover it, upon looking at the bottom I could tell it screwed on, which was great news for me!

I took it apart, and spray painted the metal base a hot pink color, which is my princess color (of COURSE!) And I re-upholstered the seat in white pleather. Because the back was missing and I wanted it to be more festive and girly (just cause pink isn’t enough! lol) I took a lot of different kinds of ribbon and tied them on the top of the bar to hang down.

Different sizes, colors, textures…to create a streamer effect. Very interesting to look at! I’ll work on better photos (I know my photos always suck!) but here is the finished product as it stands!

The table is still undergoing painting, the dark blue is hard to cover with pink. :)

Glam Wig Head – Britney Spears Style! Tutorial

Hello! I know I haven’t posted for awhile I’ve had some serious problems getting blogger to actually POST my updates. So here’s another attempt at letting you guys know what’s going on. This week I’m making a diaper cake and I’ll be posting a tutorial for that soon, and coming up I am planning my 4 year old cousins birthday party complete with a huge cardboard box princess castle. So photos for that will be coming soon.

I did want to post a tutorial on my GLAM BRITNEY SPEARS WIG HEAD! You read that right! lol. We were digging around in my overly packed garage and came across this wig head, my sister said trash it, but I said noo…I can make something totally awesome with this. She was beat up, dented, she’s seen better days. So this is what I started out with and I can’t wait for you to see what I ended with. You can buy these brand new for about $5 at wig/beauty shops.

All beat up and sad. :(

This is what she was BEFORE I started on her. You can see all the dents and scrapes on her. I’ve named her Britney. lol. .Why do you ask did I choose to fashion her after Britney Spears? Purely by accident, a few weeks ago I got a great deal on two Britney Spears tickets for my sister, to the Femme Fatale tour, and my sister loves Britney. I bought the tickets at Groupon, so check them out if you are looking for something to do in your area, I get a lot of GREAT deals there.

Just a few lines of lyrics from my sister's favorite songs.

So I chose a few lines of lyrics out of her Music, matched them up with some awesome font “Vijaya” for I’m Addicted to You, “MV Boli” for My Sexy Attitude, and “Carnivalee Freakshow” for Just like a Circus. You can find these fonts free on most free font pages. I used size 66 and I put them all in Bold. Printed them out in black and began to cut them.

You could definitely use some of the edger scissors instead of plain scissors like I did to create an interesting border.

I shaped them them into rounded edges and put the three lines of lyrics to the side.

I pulled out my tissue paper and went through what I had available.I had dark blue, lime green, pink and purple. I chose

I chose two colors of tissue paper.

to use Pink and Purple, nothing says Britney Spears like hot pink! I also dug through my glues and found some Elmer’s Glue and a small bottle of Triple Thick, it’s a brush on glaze, you can get it at any craft store, I bought mine for $3.99 at Hobby Lobby.

And I tore the tissue into strips, and began to layer it on Britney’s head. I would put a layer of purple and then glue

You can see how I pu the lighter of the two tissue colors on top of the words.

down a line of lyrics, then layer pink tissue on top of the lyrics. (Note: this is why I used black ink  to print the lyrics, and you want to use a light colored tissue over the lyrics or you wont be able to see through it.) You see her in this picture in the process of being glued together. Took me about three days in between working and doing other day to day things. She had to dry fully before I could glaze her.

Here she is fully glazed! She is shinny and in person she is very very mod and cool.

Here she is fully glazed. I'll work on a better photo!

She doesn’t photograph so terribly well. lol I have tons more photos and if you want to see more just let me know!

She’s pretty cool if I do say so myself, she’s going to my sister so she put her on her vanity and use her to hold her wigs or headbands, whatever she wants. I’m kind of fond of Britney!

What do you think?

Rasberry Beret, the Kind You Find at a Second Hand Store: New Finished Project!

I was working on t his chair for my sister, I didn’t get a before picture sadly, but I got some great after photos. We picked this chair up about a month back from a curb alert of Craigslist. I love curb alerts you never know what you are going to find! Anyway it was a chair, it looked to have been sanded, the chair had a seat sitting on it but it wasn’t screwed down in any way it was just loose. The seat was covered with this ugly bright blue fabric with tiny little pink flowers embroidered on it, just ugly. Anyway with this chair there was also a chair with broken arms, I haven’t started this one yet, but probably will this weekend. :)

The Chair: Free
The Paint: $1 (Dollar store in Kannapolis)
The Fabric: $4 (Garden Ridge’s fabric isle)

Total cost of Reagan’s new dressing chair: $5

A closeup of the fabric, it’s a very cool baroque kind of look, velvety gray, I couldn’t iron this fabric so for a bit until it lays flat there will be a crease. But I think it turned out well.
